fluorescent adolescent: October 2014

The Metropolitan Museum of Manila is, if I'm not mistaken, one of the Philippines' premier museums that curates both contemporary and visual arts and installments made by various artists; local and/or foreign.

It was my first time to have a proper museum visit since an actual tour is a tad bit different in my opinion. I was really focused on the background and other facts about each installation since I'm immensely fascinated with how certain things are made and whatnot.

Also, I wish kicking out of students who aren't even interested with the tour should've happened because god damn.

Back in the old days, the Marcos regime, the museum only showcases artworks and installations from foreign curators. Then came in the Aquino administration wherein both local and foreign artists can feature their works in the museum now because democracy and nationalism and patriotism. Unfortunately, no photography is allowed in the 2nd floor and the basement so all I had were pictures from the main floor. Either way, they were all good.

After the tour we were given time to look around the place ourselves and take pictures. There was also a MET event happening wherein there were paintings installed too but are of the modern style. The museum also curates old films (color revived, i think?) and kinetic sculptures. What I liked best was the vinyl player! It felt retro-ish. If I could have it I would but then again, never mind. There was also a guitar-like sculpture made out of spoon and fork which you can actually make legit music when you strum it.

After the visit we headed over to Harbour Square to meet up with our friends since they were the first batch to get inside and us, on the other hand, were late so we opted to be in the second batch. We talked about a lot of things and listened to some of them sing over coffee. We were also supposed to go back to school and watch the play but I didn't want to risk going home late again because the last time I did (the day before lulz) the LRT line too damn long and a jeepney ride from where I was to my home is quite costly to be honest.

This is the first time I have visited Metropolitan and am looking forward in visiting more museums around Manila. I've always wanted to go to Pambansang Museo and Museong Pambata but never really got the chance, fund$$$, and sometimes the energy to do it.
